Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko will be sworn in on Monday at Uhuru Park.

The swearing-in will be conducted before a High Court judge or a Chief Magistrate.

Mr Sonko has already instructed the Assumption of the Office of Governor Committee to use the Sh25 million set aside for the event to pay staff salaries.

It is still unclear if the committee will allocate any monies for the same and Sonko was silent over how the ceremony will be planned with no budget.

According to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Planning and Devolution, all the 47 governors will be sworn into office before the end of next week.

DECLARATION OF RESULTS

Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, in a notice, indicated that the Governors, some re-elected and others assuming the posts for the first time, are scheduled to be sworn-in on the 10th day after the declaration of the election results.

Each of the governor-elect has been allocated a maximum of two security guards and their deputies one officer as they await their swearing-in.

Mr Sonko will be sworn in on the same day as Anne Waiguru (Kerugoya Stadium), Joyce Laboso (Green Stadium in Bomet) and Anyang Nyong’o’s (Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu).

The first set of governors will be sworn in on Thursday this week and include Machakos’ Alfred Mutua.

Kiambu’s Ferdinand Waititu will be sworn in on Saturday at Ndumberi Stadium.
